We Can Only Conclude That the Violence Link Project is Another Example of SPCA Spin Doctoring

In Response To: The SPCA's Violence Link Project: Helping Victims of Violence? It Sounds Good on Paper But is the SPCA really DOING Anything? (Jeri-Lyn Ratzlaff, Jennifer Dickson, Judy Stone: AAS)

We can only conclude through all our investigative work into the Violence Link Project, that it is yet another example of SPCA spin doctoring. It appears that the money spent on the Violence Link Project went into pamphlets and pr, and NOT to the branches in the way of funding to help provide the victims of violence with a temporary safehouse for their pets. In the words of numerous branch staff that we spoke to throughout the province "We're sorry, but we just don't have the resources."

There was one incident where an AAS volunteer in Kelowna was witness to the Kelowna SPCA handing over a dog and two cats to a tearful young woman who thanked the SPCA staff person and was told to call the SPCA if she ever needed anything in the future. We wonder if this woman was a victim of violence whom the Kelowna SPCA had helped by caring for her pets. If so, then she would appear to be one of the lucky few, as the response to our telephone research has indicated overwhelmingly that the SPCA did not put the resources in place to do what its p.r. promised.

Same old SPCA. No reform, just reimaging.

if these transition houses and official women's support groups knew that there really wasn't anything being done by the BCSPCA, they would be more inclined to create something themselves
